Larry Hill, founder
|
A few of our current customers remember Darts and Things as it was originally: a small line of darting supplies peddled out of the back of his wife's Panorama City wig store. This is how Larry Hill, the founder of Darts and Things Ð The Store, got started as a darting entrepreneur back in 1982.
When Hill began playing darts in 1976, he almost immediately recognized the need for a specialty store. "[At that time] there was not an actual dart store available to us in the San Fernando Valley," said Hill in a 1992 Daily News article. "Any selection of supplies was just in the bars and taverns we played in and that was a very limited selection."
So seven days a week, Hill promoted his line of supplies day and night to fellow darters and tournament players. He poured all of his profits into constantly expanding his inventory and opened the store on Victory Boulevard that is still home to Darts and ThingsÐThe Store to this day.
The current owner of Darts and Things and Larry Hill's longtime friend, Vickie Williams, strives to carry on his legacy. She hopes that The Store will continue to attract seasoned veterans and eager new players to the sport for years to come.
